With more than 30,000 workers losing their jobs last month alone, Australia may be in the middle of the worst slump since the Great Depression, but A Current Affair has found some major Aussie businesses who are actually hunting for additional employment.
Australia Post has embarked on the biggest recruiting push in its 210-year history, with $4 billion projected to be spent on internet sales this Christmas.
“We’re looking to employ 4000 people throughout the next three months to support us through the peak period and throughout the Christmas period to help deliver on the huge demand,” Sue Davies from Australia Post announced earlier this month.
“The roles will be in delivery drivers, they’ll be in processing, forklift driving, really across the whole of the business, clerical, support roles and roles in our customer contact centre.”
“By the time we get to Christmas we’re expecting volumes of 50 million a week,” Ms Davies said.
