A man charged with murdering the 84-year-old has been charged with bashing a pensioner outside his Perth home during a crime spree.
Emiliano Lombardi died last month at Royal Perth Hospital, two weeks after he was beaten and stabbed with broken glass outside his home in East Cannington.
Quade Karsum Jones, 28, was originally charged with deliberately causing grievous bodily harm in relation to the bashing.
The charge has now been elevated to murder after the taking over of the case by homicide detectives.
On Wednesday, Jones will appear before Perth Magistrates Court.
Premier Mark McGowan earlier this month offered his sympathies to Mr Lombardi’s loved ones, saying he was deeply saddened by his death.
“Nobody, especially our elderly and most vulnerable, should have to suffer like this, nor be afraid outside their own home,” he posted on social media.
“My own parents are approaching Mr Lombardi’s age – I can only imagine how his family are feeling today.”
